Manolo MillaresApril 18, 2006 - June 2, 2006
This show presented a selection of Spanish artist Manolo Millares' paintings, collages, and drawings, focusing on his crucially inventive years between 1957 and 1964.
By ripping, tearing, and wrapping red, black, and white canvas around naked stretchers, Millares subverted the very essence of easel painting with a uniquely Spanish sense of dramatic existentialism. Millares confronted the dark history of Spain's recent past and paved the way for an entirely new visual language.

From the Fifties style newspaper advertising imagery to his later encyclopedic panoramas, many of the artist's most powerful paintings have been essentially monochromatic.

Picasso moved into in 1955.
